We are thrilled to announce the release of the Origami Solar Gen 2 Steel Solar Module Frame. Production-ready samples are available for evaluation and certification testing. Available in industry-standard profile designs, the Gen 2 frame was developed in collaboration with multiple global steel industry partners to facilitate a smooth transition into high-volume production.
Our second generation profile is lightweight, stronger than aluminum frames, contributes to domestic content for the bonus ITC, as well as providing a significant reduction in GHG emissions.
“Origami Solar steel module frames will help accelerate our energy independence, significantly reduce the solar industry’s carbon footprint, and enable unconstrained local-region panel production,” said Gregg Patterson, CEO of Origami Solar.
Extending U.S. Treasury and IRS Guidance to Solar Module Frames will Yield More US Steel Production and Jobs
Origami Solar applauds the recent guidance from the U.S. Treasury on domestic content requirements to qualify for the IRA bonus ITC. We agree with Secretary of the Treasury, Janet L. Yellen, when she said, “The domestic content bonus under the Inflation Reduction Act will boost American manufacturing, including in iron and steel, so America’s workers and companies continue to benefit from President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.”
Domestic content can and should go even further with solar module frames made from recycled US steel by American workers. Domestically produced steel module frames will not only reshore jobs and reduce costs, but they will also dramatically lower GHG emissions. This change will help reduce embodied carbon across the solar supply chain which we are deeply committed to as a member of the Ultra Low-Carbon Solar Alliance.
